Alexandria Carr

The Kings Aces Magazine:
First off thank you for taking time out to chat with us over at The kings Aces.
So let the people know your name, what you do and where you're from.

Alexandria Carr:
My name is Alexandria Carr and I am a writer, director and poet from Oklahoma City.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
When was it that you first realized you wanted to do this profession?

Alexandria Carr:
I’ve always been into poetry and that writing aspect. At a very young age, I remember writing my first poem and reciting it at a woman’s prison with my dad when he was doing prison ministry. I decided that I wanted to become a screenplay writer, when I released my first script of Scandalous Tales to my cast members and they went nuts. That is when I realized "oh shit, i can do something with this".

The Kings Aces Magazine:
How long have you been doing writing?

Alexandria Carr:
Since a child. I can’t seem to remember the age.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
Who are your influences?

Alexandria Carr:
Poetry wise, Warsan Shire. She’s an amazing poet. I enjoyed her work before she did the poetry for the Lemonade Album by Beyoncé. When I first watched the visual, and I heard Beyoncé speaking those words I automatically knew it was Shire.  My inspiration for writing shows/short films would have to be Shonda Rhimes, hands down.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
What made you want to get into the writing & film industry?

Alexandria Carr:
It was totally random, to be honest. Poetry has been my first love, and I’ve always wrote short stories here and there but I never really got into publicly releasing them. A club promoter in the LGBTQ community suggested doing a LGBTQ web series in OKC. She needed help, writers, actors, models ect. When making the post on facebook, I received some tages that I should write this. After talking with her I agreed to do so. She then handed the project to me, due to not having enough time to work on it, and I jumped right in to direct, as we didn’t have a director.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
What are you thinking about when working on a show or developing  project ?

Alexandria Carr:
When writing season 1 of Scandalous Tales, I thought of life experiences. I’ve dealt with Mental Illness my entire life, so this was something that really stood out in season 1. Believe it or not, but a lot of things shown in Season 1 are either from experience, or stuff that I’ve seen firsthand, the life of some friends that surrounded me.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
Tell us what do you think viewers will get out of your work?

Alexandria Carr:
For season 2, I think a lot of people will get that you can be yourself and still be faithful in your religion, if you are religious. I also think people will see that not ALL “bad” people stay bad. Some people repent, they change their ways.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
What is the most difficult thing you had to endure in life?

Alexandria Carr:
Probably the loss of my Grandmother. She was a 2nd mother to me, and I actually lost her November 2017, when we started to wrap up things with season 1 of Scandalous Tales. She was extremely proud of me, and she made sure that I knew that.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
What is the most difficult thing you had to endure in the industry?

Alexandria Carr:
Season 1 being my first rodeo, I would have to same time management. I had no clue that 1 page of writing could turn into hours of filming. It was crazy to see what timing meant with filming. Another hard thing is casting people, getting them ready for the part, and half way before filming they decide they don’t want to do it anymore, or they can’t. That’s a huge obstacle while filming and I’m sure it’s nothing to replace people in Hollywood, so I had to learn that. Replacing is just that, and I can’t feel bad in doing so. Yes, it puts us behind, but I have learned to have patience. Cause nothing good comes to those who can’t wait.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
How does it feel to finally get your foot somewhat in the door?

Alexandria Carr:
Amazing. Even though we are local, I still have thousands of people viewing my work and that is insane. We also have a few people looking to help us get our foot in other doors.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
What is your blueprint to this grind?

Alexandria Carr:
I want to continue to do projects, even outside of Scandalous Tales. I want to reach out to people and touch them through my art. Bring awareness. I don’t want to just bring people entertainment, I want this to be a movement as well.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
If there was one thing about your career that you would change right now, what would that be?

Alexandria Carr:
Nothing. I think everything I have been through thus far has taught me a lot and there is only room to grow. Of course who doesn’t want funding? That probably something I would change, is having funding. I think it would make the project go a lot smoother.

The Kings Aces Magazine:
When everything is all said and done, what would you like your fans to say about you and what you brought to the table?

Alexandria Carr:
That you can be you no matter what. You are special, you are LOVED AND YOU CAN do anything if you put your mind to it!

The Kings Aces Magazine:
Come back and sit with us well thank you for taking the time to sit with us and we want to wish you much success through out your career. Hopefully you will come some time in the future and we can keep your loyal fans updated on your future endeavors.

Thanks,

Scandalous Tales
