THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:
First off thank you for taking time out to chat with us over at the kings aces.

Derek Staples:

No I thank you!

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:
So let the people know your name, what you do and where you're from.

Derek Staples:

My name is Derek Staples. My nick name and the name everyone knows me by is Geez. I'm snapchat famous and they turned my name into Geez The Realest and my brand is my #RealOnes (SC:iam_thevillin) . I quit my job at family services to peruse school full time. I'm a communications major. I'm from NJ.

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:

When was it that you first realized you wanted to do this profession?

Derek Staples:

Growing up I've always been a performer. I grew up singing in the church. When I got to to high school I was the lead role in 2 of the plays. After high school I completely stopped singing.

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:

how long have you been doing this?

Derek Staples:

About 2 yrs ago, one of my good friends Dave was dating this guy that's a DJ in Philly that raps and he got my friend rapping and then my friend got me rapping. At first it was just play which then turned into a hobby. After continuously writing and writing and writing everyone that heard my music pushed me to start recording because they loved my music.

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:
Who are your influences?

Derek Staples:

Musically, of course I love Nicki Minaj. I love K. Michelle, and singing and rapping i looked to Lauren Hill and felt as though no one could do it like her until I heard Tink.

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:
What made you want to get into the business?

Derek Staples:

A profit once told me that music is my calling. I didn't think much about it until people pushed me really start rapping. What made me want to get into the business is one day while at work, I was walking back into my building where I heard someone blasting my song down the highway and I couldn't believe it.!

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:
What are you thinking about when working on a beat or developing a album?

Derek Staples:

While working on a song most of the time it's what I'm feeling at that particular moment and I try to put that into my music. I think of how I'm feeling or sometimes I look at other people's situations and I write about it

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:
Tell us what do you think listeners will get out of your music?

Derek Staples:

I think my listeners get that guys aren't shit when they hear my songs. They also feel that I'm basically this IDGAF conceited kind of person. The not caring part is true but I'm far from conceited. I just know my worth, I know what I like, I know what I deserve and I know what I'm not settling for

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:

What is the most difficult thing you had to endure in life?

Derek Staples:

The most difficult thing I've ever had to endure was losing my grandfather and now my grandmother isn't doing well so it's hard living that any day she can go.

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:
How does it feel to  finally getting your break?

Derek Staples:

Snapchat has really done wonders for the  career I'm trying to peruse as an artist! More and more people everyday support me and more and more people are hitting me up to do features. It feels amazing. The only dilemma I face is sound. I'm not as versatile YET! People that hit me up for features or people that email me beats I can't get with their sound. But music is an art everyone has their own vision.

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:

What do you hope to do with your music?

Derek Staples:

I don't really care if I make it into the industry because that's not ultimately where i see the direction of my life going . I'm not out here asking or begging people to buy my music I just want people to listen to my music and talk about it.

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:
If there was one thing about your career that you would change right now, what would that be?

Derek Staples:

One thing about my career that I would change right now is giving it everything I have. I love doing music and by the feedback I get it makes it worth it but I feel as though if i put more work more time and give it everything in me then I could really go places.

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:

when everything is all said and done, what would you like your fans to say about you and what you brought to the table?

Derek Staples:

One thing i want my fans to say about me is I make it ok for people to want to be themselves. I embrace being gay when no one else does I embrace being fat when everyone wants to configure their body to look like magazine models. I embrace  being dark skin. Everything that people throw shade on other people about i just want everyone to embrace who they are and not change because of other people's opinions i want everyone to be ok with who they are and how they look. I want my fans to really know that Geez is really the Realest !

THE KINGS ACES MAGAZINE:

Come back and sit with us well thank you for taking the time to sit with us and we want to wish you much success through out your career. Hopefully you will come some time in the future and we can keep your loyal fans updated on your future endeavors.
